The Roads Less Traveled

Why our riding routes rock for friends from far…and near.

Sometimes we miss the awesome stuff that’s staring us right in the face.

It happens a lot when you live here. Passing horse and buggies becomes a chore. Twisting back roads seem less beautiful and more cumbersome. The smell of manure just isn’t so sweet.

Well, I mean, the smell of manure is never sweet, but you get the point.

The point is that sometimes we need to remind ourselves we live in an amazing place. Seriously. Folks visit our Intercourse shop from all over the world. People flock to Lititz because it’s been officially dubbed the “coolest small town in America.” They fall in love with our twisting backroads. They’re charmed by the horse and buggies. Heck, even the manure is an acceptable side effect of the gorgeous rolling farmland. We need to take a page outta their book.

We need to take a vacation in our own backyard. Bring back the old spark.

That’s exactly what our wall of routes is all about, sharing what’s awesome about our home with tourists and, for us locals, taking the time to remember why we’re lucky to live here. The routes we put together are inspired by the rides Mark and I love the most, featuring low-traffic roads that just beg for a selfie session with stops at quaint markets and cafes you’ll only find in Lancaster County.

It’s amazing what you see on a bike that you never notice in your car, like the way the meadow changes color when the wind blows or how fast a cow can run (which is pretty awesome when it’s running beside your rolling bike!). So why not do an out-of-the-box date day with someone you love? Or with a group of friends? Get reacquainted with each other, and with the magic of Lancaster County.

Routes range in length from about an hour of riding to an entire day. Bring your bike, rent a traditional bike, or try one of our Pedego Electric bikes. The routes are free with rentals and we ask just a $2 printing donation if you bring your own bike. Live in the Lititz area? Head down to Intercourse and check out the area’s most populated Amish community – and roads that remind lots of our guests of Europe. From Intercourse? Go north to Lititz and pair rail trail with roads featuring covered bridges and working farms.

Sometimes you don’t need to leave home to go on vacation. Sometimes a bike ride is all you need to feel completely refreshed.

Sometimes, you just need to stop and smell the manure.
